Saint Louis Marijuana Billboard Posted

saint louis marijuana billboard

By John Payne

Thanks to a generous contribution from Ted McCluskey of Saint Louis BigBalls Kickball, motorists entering the Saint Louis area from the west are now greeted by a sign pointing out the waste of the 20,000 cannabis arrests in Missouri every year. The sign is located on I-64/U.S. 40 a half mile southeast of the I-70 junction. An estimated 140,000 travelers see the billboard each week.

The sign is posted near the edge of the Saint Louis Metropolitan Area in Saint Charles County, which is by far the most conservative county in the area. Many motorists headed into Saint Louis County and City will see the sign, but I believe the message about government waste will particularity appeal to the limited government sensibilities of Saint Charles County.

NJWeedman’s Passing the Joint: New Jersey’s marijuana activist goes mainstream

By NJWeedman, For The Trentonian

Head shot of Ed Forchion, aka NJWeedman

Over 1.7 million people have read my material on my website, NJweedman.com. But now I’m mainstream – a columnist for The Trentonian. I expect there to be some amount of consternation and criticism directed at me and the editors of The Trentonian for giving me this platform to make my voice heard.
So bring it on.
Of all the newspapers in New Jersey, The Trentonian has been the most receptive to my cause, and so it makes sense it would be the publication to enable me to reach out to the public like this. For that I’m grateful and yes, I lit up an “illegal” phattie and ate a THC-infused brownie banned by Governor Christie to celebrate.

Arkansas Readies Medical Marijuana Law for 2016

Arkansas Readies Medical Marijuana Law for 2016

While several states are gearing up for November with eyes on the legalization prize, Arkansas is getting ready to push forward with an initiative for the 2016 ballot.

The group backing the initiative, called The 2016 Arkansas Compassionate Care Act, is touting this as one of the most liberal and comprehensive medical cannabis bills written, and it does appear to be quite thorough.

Cannabis reverses late-stage Alzheimer’s

by: Paul Fassa
Marijuana-Pot-Plant-Leaf

Alzheimer’s disease has become the third-leading disease cause of death, behind heart disease and cancer. Its rate has risen almost exponentially over the past few decades, and the numbers are expected to triple by 2050. [1]

Meanwhile, Big Pharma is clueless, which is a blessing in disguise, as some more effective, less expensive and less toxic remedies are slipping through the cracks.

You’ve probably read about the positive effects of coconut oil’s medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) to produce ketones that energize brain cells in lieu of dysfunctional brain metabolism.

And there are herbs from traditional Chinese medicine and Ayurveda that are helpful, while Big Pharma flounders with failures to create a profitable Alzheimer’s pharmaceuticals that might help more than harm.

But now there is another effective non-pharmaceutical solution to add: cannabis.

Why add hemp seed to your diet? Here are the benefits

Hemp seed is similar to flaxseed, but because hemp cultivation has historically been prohibited in most of the United States, its health benefits are less commonly known here. But as industrial hemp is putting down new roots in U.S., it’s worth getting reacquainted with the nutritional benefits of this seed.

Superfood

The term “superfood” gets thrown around a lot, but hemp seed deserves the title. It contains almost as much protein as soybeans, and is rich in vitamin E, calcium, potassium and magnesium. A study conducted in Finland found that both hemp seeds and hemp seed oil are an excellent source of nutrition, and that concerns about THC (the active compound in marijuana) in these food are “not support by scientific evidence.”

But perhaps most importantly, hemp seed contains high levels of essential fatty acids, including linoleic acid, omega-6, and omega-3. Diets rich in these fatty acids, and lower in saturated fats, are associated with lower incidents of heart disease.

Marijuana could make roads safer, say US academics

Adam Vidler Associate Producer, 9NEWS.com.au

Road fatalities have dropped in Colorado since marijuana was legalised, putting to bed fears of “drugged drivers” turning the roads into a bloodbath.

Figures published in the Washington Post showed that in 2014, road fatalities had been lower than in 2013 for five of the seven months so far.

Colorado has averaged 300 July fatalities every year since 2002, but figures showed about 250 deaths had been recorded on the roads in July in 2014.

The Post said opponents of legalising marijuana had warned that drivers would drive after partaking, becoming a danger on the roads.

Researchers at the University of Oregon have claimed marijuana could make the roads safer, as it would become a replacement for alcohol and cause less driver impairment.

Fresno Cannabis Association opposes Senate Bill 1262

by Bud Green ( bud [at] fresnocannabis.org )

Senate Bill 1262 would institutionalize a chaotic and ever-changing patchwork of “wet” and “dry” cities and counties, leaving medical cannabis patients in Fresno and much of the Central Valley with no safe access to medical cannabis.

This is the text of a letter delivered by FCA members to state Sen. Lou Correa, Assembly Member Tom Ammiano and several Central Valley lawmakers at ASA’s Lobby Day on Aug. 5 in Sacramento:
Following a survey of its members, the Fresno Cannabis Association wishes to express its opposition to Senate Bill 1262. The greatest concern of FCA members was the bill’s complete failure to address the dispensary and cultivation bans in Fresno and the Central Valley, much less do anything to stop them.

Marijuana penalty reduction introduced to Albuquerque Council

k

One of the most controversial topics brought up at City Hall since the summer break has been the legalization of marijuana.
Councilor Rey Garduno believes pot penalties should be reduced.
Garduno told the media outside the council’s chambers Monday that if people arrested on marijuana charges have less than 1 ounce of marijuana on them, they should face lesser consequences.

These growers know marijuana inside and out

BY JORDAN SCHRADER

The marijuana being sold legally at Washington’s new retail stores is the product of a loving but strict upbringing.
By and large, it comes from plants that sprouted, grew and flowered under bright lights in climate-controlled rooms, every aspect of their cultivation tightly managed.
Count Toni Reita out of all that.
Her grow light is the Eastern Washington sun. Her air conditioning is the breeze drifting in from the Columbia River Gorge a couple of dozen miles south. She’s an Earth mother raising flower children.
“I’m a bit of a risk taker, so I’m going to take my chances with nature,” said Reita, a white-haired herbalist and naturopath who has built homes, imported cars and rescued dogs.
