Hemcrete: Smoking Hot Walls 7 Times Tougher Than Concrete

Unlike some other eco-friendly building materials, Hemcrete isn’t at all inferior to standard materials. It’s strong and durable, and it’s just as easy to use as standard materials. What’s even better is its versatility: it can be used for wall insulation, flooring and roofing, and it’s fire-proof, water-proof, and rot-proof as long as it’s above ground.

Cannabis smokers show greater lung capacity and lower cancer levels than non-smokers

by: Raw Michelle

The results of a new government-run research program are now forcing medical authorities to overturn these beliefs. The study has been ongoing for the past twenty years, following the smoking habits of over 5000 people. Researchers found that, contrary to popular belief, smoking cannabis, does not interfere with lung function or capacity. This holds true for ongoing regular -even including daily- and long term consumption. Curiously, as a general rule, cannabis smokers had better lung function than nonsmokers, which researchers attribute to the smoking action itself, rather than the cannabis. Pot smokers inhale deeply and hold those breaths to make the most of their supply, expanding the lung’s capacity.

Cannabis use linked to reduced mortality in psychosis

By Mark Cowen
MedWire News: Study results suggest that cannabis use is associated with decreased all-cause mortality risk in patients with schizophrenia.
Further research is warranted to “shed light on the anti-inflammatory properties of the endocannabinoid system and its role in decreased mortality in people with psychotic disorders,” say Maju Mathew Koola (University of Maryland School of Medicine, USA) and colleagues.
The findings come from a study of 762 patients with schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, or psychosis not otherwise specified who were aged between 18 and 55 years.
Data on cannabis and alcohol use were gathered from the patients’ medical charts and compared with mortality rates over a 4‑10 year period using the Social Security Death Index.
Overall, 295 patients were regular or frequent cannabis users and 478 were regular or frequent consumers of alcohol.
There was no significant difference in Global Assessment of Functioning scores between cannabis users and nonusers, or between alcohol users and nonusers, the researchers note.
In total, 62 patients died during the follow-up period.
After accounting for age, gender, and smoking status, the researchers found that cannabis users had a significantly lower risk for all-cause mortality than nonusers, at a hazard ratio (HR) of 0.5.

Pro-Marijuana Candidate On MSNBC: Pot Could Be Vital For California Economy

by Frances Martel

Candidate Andy Caffrey made a name for himself by promising he would smoking a marijuana cigarette on the steps of the Capitol building if he won his Congressional bid in his home district in Humboldt County, California. Caffrey visited Now with Alex Wagner to make the case for legalization, arguing that marijuana was not just a medical product in his eyes, but a potentially integral part of his district’s economy.
The Democratic candidate, who calls himself “monstrously green,” expressed some optimism about the potential for the drug to achieve a legal status given a number of right-wing public figures supporting the move, as Wagner narrated. Calling it a “ridiculous persecution,” Caffrety argued that “it would be a big travesty if the hippies died off without legalizing pot first” and explained that, in his district’s economy, where “we used to have a thriving timber industry,” marijuana could be a big help. Panelist Steve Kornacki chimed in to note that this made Caffrey unique, because the legalization he sought had as much to do with the economy as medicine, but that “in that neck of the woods, it’s becoming something that you have to have to win office.”

Revealed: Hundreds of words to avoid using online if you don’t want the government spying on you (and they include ‘pork’, ‘cloud’ and ‘Mexico’)

Revealing: A list of keywords used by government analysts to scour the internet for evidence of threats to the U.S. has been released under the Freedom of Information Act

The Department of Homeland Security has been forced to release a list of keywords and phrases it uses to monitor social networking sites and online media for signs of terrorist or other threats against the U.S.
The intriguing the list includes obvious choices such as ‘attack’, ‘Al Qaeda’, ‘terrorism’ and ‘dirty bomb’ alongside dozens of seemingly innocent words like ‘pork’, ‘cloud’, ‘team’ and ‘Mexico’.
Released under a freedom of information request, the information sheds new light on how government analysts are instructed to patrol the internet searching for domestic and external threats.
The words are included in the department’s 2011 ‘Analyst’s Desktop Binder‘ used by workers at their National Operations Center which instructs workers to identify ‘media reports that reflect adversely on DHS and response activities’.
Department chiefs were forced to release the manual following a House hearing over documents obtained through a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit which revealed how analysts monitor social networks and media organisations for comments that ‘reflect adversely’ on the government.

Veterans for Medical Cannabis Access Reply to the Disappointing Response from the Obama Administration

by

Veterans Press Statement:
Veterans For Medical Cannabis Access  [VMCA]
Monday, Memorial Day, 28 May 2012
Subject:
White House replies to Veterans petition: http://wh.gov/4xd
Thousands of Veterans requested the Obama Administration to look
into the reliable science now available showing exactly how
cannabis works to alleviate suffering of Veterans pain and
save the lives of Veterans with brain injuries such
as PTSD and therefore make appropriate changes in policy.
According to Dr. Julie Holland, Editor of The Pot Book and a
medical doctor, there have been more suicides than combat fatalities
by a ratio of 25:1. This, given how effectively cannabis works
to save lives, is an unacceptable loss.
Recent research has revealed two things of great importance – one is
that suicide rates drop around the implementation of medical marijuana
laws and the other is that new research indicates similar brain changes from
athletic head injuries, military head trauma and brain changes from
Alzheimer’s and multiple sclerosis. New research available shows how a human
body-wide set of control functions called the Endogenous Cannabinoid Receptor System
may be activated by the ingestion of cannabis to cause both neural protection and
neural regenerative properties to help relieve these difficult to treat medical
conditions.
We Veterans petitioned the Obama Administration to: “Allow United States Disabled
Military Veterans access to medical marijuana to treat their PTSD.”
The White House response to our petition was very disappointing. We
asked for a change in policy. To have our petition answered by the drug czar,an ex
policeman, is most inappropriate given the drug czar is bound by law to ONLY discuss
current law and has no power to discuss policy change with the public. Even
the lowest ranking staffer at the White House or anyone from the Veterans
Health Authority would have been more appropriate.
Al Byrne, retired Naval Officer and co-founder of VMCA, was blunt in his assessment of
the White House concern for injured Veterans:
“Vets have used cannabis for PTS since the Revolutionary War.  We know what we
need and to be told by our President, the Commander in Chief, that he does not care about
those he has sent to war by denying medicine to the wounded is unconscionable.Ã’””
The Department of Veterans Affairs is also now in direct conflict with the White House.
According to the Veterans Affairs, Undersecretary
of Health in correspondence with our Executive Director, Michael Krawitz:
“The provider (VA) will take the use of medical marijuana into account in all
prescribing decisions, just as the provider would for any other medication.Ã’” [1.]

Joint Effort: Reefer Roadshow Asks Seniors to Support Medical Pot

By ARIAN CAMPO-FLORES

LAKE WORTH, Fla.—Selma Yeshion, an 83-year-old retiree here, says she long considered marijuana a menace. “I thought it was something that was addictive” and “would lead to harder drugs,” she says.
Then she attended a presentation at the local L’Dor Va-Dor synagogue in April put on by a group called the Silver Tour. The group aims to persuade seniors to support legislation to legalize marijuana for medicinal purposes in Florida. A series of speakers, including a doctor, a patient and several advocates, argued that pot was just what the silver-haired set needed to combat conditions like chronic pain and insomnia.

Robert Platshorn told Florida seniors about medical uses of marijuana.

Ms. Yeshion was sold. “I want to get some cannabis,” she said afterward, with a big smile. “I have pain in my back, so it would be nice. Damn it to hell, I want to try it once in my lifetime.”
