Carbondale pot shop lifts surrounding retailers

Becoming the first recreational marijuana shop on the Western Slope of Colorado was a major financial bonus for the Doctor’s Garden, but it appears the marijuana dispensary isn’t the only one garnering new business in Carbondale.
Businesses on Main Street in Carbondale located near the dispensary reported a spike in customers starting Jan. 15, the day the Doctor’s Garden began selling recreational marijuana.

South Dakota – Following Alcohol Vote, Pine Ridge Considers Legalized Pot

PINE RIDGE, SD –
Oglala tribal officials who are still months away from implementing alcohol sales on the reservation that were approved in a tribal vote last summer.
But they are also facing another controversial issue: Should marijuana be legal on the reservation as well?
Tribal Councilman Larry Eagle Bull of Pine Ridge offered the resolution to a tribal business development committee, which approved it. That could set up a reservation vote sometime later this spring or summer
The tribal council should follow the will of the people on marijuana legalization, whatever that turns out to be, Eagle Bull said.

A Look at Growing Hemp

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) — The United States Senate reached a milestone when they passed the Farm Bill this week.
One provision in it allows for hemp to be legal to grow now.
Agriculture experts say it’s a very versatile crop.
“A lot of feed stuff for humans or animals, lot of industrial products, lotions, cosmetics. I think a couple of things that have been looked at more recently would be bio-fuels and also in the auto industry,” said Dr. Todd Willian, Professor of Agronomy.

LAS VEGAs (AP) — The Las Vegas City Council has ordered staff members to research the possibility of allowing medical marijuana dispensaries within city limits.
The measure was approved 5-2 at a City Council meeting Wednesday, with council members Lois Tarkanian and Stavros Anthony dissenting.
Dispensaries are not allowed under a six-month moratorium that expires in March, but Wednesday’s vote allows the council to revisit the issue.
