Oregon officials are backing off their proposal to prohibit sales of pot-infused treats at medical marijuana stores.
In a new set of rules released Monday, the Oregon Health Authority will only ban marijuana-laced products that are made or packaged in ways that might appeal to children. That means nothing brightly colored or formed in the shape of animals, toys or candies.

Supreme Court sides with AZ patient whose marijuana was taken by police

The US Supreme Court will not overturn a series of Arizona court rulings which compelled police in Yuma County to return marijuana they confiscated from a citizen who was allowed to have cannabis in another state for medicinal purposes.
Valerie Okun, a California resident with a medical marijuana prescription in that state, was stopped by Border Patrol agents at a checkpoint in Arizona in 2011. Finding cannabis in Okun’s car, the police confiscated the drug, hashish and drug paraphernalia from her car. She was charged with marijuana possession crimes, although the charges were dropped when she proved in court that she used the drug as medication.
A number of Arizona courts ruled that the Yuma County police should return Okun’s marijuana, although the police argued that since the drug is still technically illegal under federal law it would be a crime to return the weed in question. They consistently refused, asserting that Arizona’s own medicinal marijuana law – which permits people with authorizations from out of state to keep their cannabis in Arizona – is invalidated by the federal statute.
That argument lasted until Monday, when the US Supreme Court refused to review a January ruling by the Arizona Court of Appeals.
The case is especially significant because it serves as a precedent for the 43,000 medical marijuana users that populate Arizona, as well as the hundreds of caregivers who work with the drug every day.

A Colorado marijuana innovation is changing the way lawmakers in even the most conservative parts of the country talk about cannabis and is poised to create a rapid expansion in the number of states that have legalized marijuana in some way.
But many marijuana advocates view the new political campaign with skepticism, fearing it could halt their movement’s momentum.

High time we explore hemp’s many uses

IOL ct hemp house lounge-to-kitchen

Hemporium constructed a hemp house in Noordhoek that is constructed with hempcrete (a mix of chipped hemp stalk and lime), hemp insulation (made from the hollow hemp fibre) and hemp chipboard.
The soft furnishings such as carpets, curtains, couches and bed linen all were made from hemp too.
Hempcrete has been dubbed “the better-than-zero-carbon” building material, and the houses built with it are not only eco-friendly, but are healthy, breathable and well insulated.
With economies of scale, all of these products could be competitive with the price of traditional building methods, as has been shown in Europe, with Marks & Spencer building their latest flagship store using hempcrete.
If we evaluated construction materials on the true costs, including the environmental and social costs, hemp would win every time.

The coming marijuana crash

"Alright, so that's 40 pounds of premium marijuana at $8 a pound. Will you take a cheque?"
“Alright, so that’s 40 pounds of premium marijuana at $8 a pound. Will you take a cheque?”
Marijuana prices are going to drop substantially over the next year, and then drop even more once full legalization happens.
SHRINKING EXPORTS DRIVE DOWN PRICES
Marijuana prices in BC have dropped about 30% over the past decade, and I predict this decline will only accelerate over the coming years.
Home cultivation in Canada really got going with the introduction of high-intensity indoor lighting in the mid 1980′s. Before that time, virtually all marijuana and hash in North America was imported from Mexico or South America.
The profitability of Canadian marijuana exports into the US peaked during the mid 1990′s. At this time, the US dollar was worth up to $1.60 Canadian, and American prohibition was in full swing which kept prices high. It was a very profitable time to bring BC Bud across the border.
Since that time, the demand for Canadian cannabis in the USA has been on a slow and steady decline. California legalized medical cultivation and sale in 1996, and other states have steadily followed their lead. Now there are 20 states with some form of legalized medical marijuana, and two states with full legalization. Combine this with a US dollar basically at par with Canada’s, and we see why the demand for imported BC Bud has declined dramatically in the USA.

Sir Richard Branson Asked To Bankroll Marijuana Legalization in California

By Chris Roberts

Wouldn’t be the hardest thing he’s done

It’s not private prisons or Big Pharma that’s keeping marijuana illegal in California (though no doubt both benefit big-time from drug prohibition).
It’s money, as in a lack of about $3 million to put a voter initiative like the ones that legalized small amounts of cannabis in Colorado or Washington (and failed here in 2010) before voters in the country’s richest and most populous state.
Luckily, there are some exceedingly rich people who say they like the idea of legalization. And one of them — the magnetic Virgin Group magnate Sir Richard Branson, all $5 billion of him — was asked in San Francisco last night, point-blank if he’d consider writing the check.
He didn’t say yes. But, at the same time, the bold and outspoken billionaire didn’t say no.

Las Vegas – Medical marijuana meeting sees overwhelming response

Stacey Gualandi

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) — It’s a hot topic that people definitely have an opinion on.
On Wednesday, the pot talk drew a crowd so large there was standing room only. It was held at the Development Services Center.
Now that the city has paved the way for patients to access medical marijuana, the public got to check out the city’s proposed rules and regulations for licensing.
It was a packed house with a line out the door. Some fought their way in, but many were turned away.
