Traditionally, candidates for elected office have shied away from discussing marijuana, seeing it as a marginalized, third-rail issue that’s dangerous to touch. This year, however, more politicians have noticed that a growing number of voters actually support marijuana reform. A record number of candidates have decided that taking positive positions can help, and won’t hurt, at the ballot box.

Study: Young voters need to show up on Election Day

Young voters could have a decisive impact in Iowa’s U.S. Senate Race, according to a new study by the Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement.
The number of millennials, those age 18 to 29, has surpassed baby boomers. Here in Iowa there are about 424,000 18-29 year olds, comprising 20 percent of the state’s population. They could have a big impact in the election, if they show up at the polls, according to the study’s authors, but in the last midterm just under 29 percent cast a ballot.

After accidental start, medical marijuana becomes a movement

Floridians have been bombarded with press coverage of Amendment 2. Yet, for all the noise, there are important aspects of this discussion that have barely been touched upon, including the beginning of the medical-marijuana movement. How many Floridians are aware that a native son of the Sunshine State is the father of this movement? His name was Robert C. Randall — my late husband.

Cannabis should be sold in shops alongside beer and cigarettes, doctors’ journal says

Cannabis 'can cause psychosis in healthy people'

An editorial in the British Medical Journal suggested that the sale of cannabis should be licensed like alcohol because banning it had not worked.
Banning cannabis had increased drug-related violence because enforcement made “the illicit market a richer prize for criminal groups to fight over”.
An 18-fold increase in the anti-drugs budget in the US to $18billion between 1981 and 2002 had failed to stem the market for the drug.
In fact cannabis related drugs arrests in the US increased from 350,000 in 1990 to more than 800,000 a year by 2006, with seizures quintupling to 1.1million kilogrammes.
The editorial, written by Professor Robin Room of Melbourne University, said: “In some places, state controlled instruments – such as licensing regimes, inspectors, and sales outlets run by the Government – are still in place for alcohol and these could be extended to cover cannabis.”

Almost 18 years after California voters legalized medical marijuana, yet police terrorize thousands of patient-cultivators each growing season with warrantless, no-knock raids. Defense attorneys sayCalifornia officers are willfully ignoring established law, and it’s hard not to believe them when you see incidents like this.
Advocacy group Reform California posted pictures Oct. 24 of San Diego area officers raiding patients while wearing T-shirts that read: ‘FUCK THE GROWERS … MARIJUANA’S STILL ILLEGAL”.

The New Super Seed You Need to Try

There seems to be a seed revolution happening on supermarket shelves these days. Everything from breakfast cereals to granola bars to yogurts has chia and flax in them. And now, the latest super sexy seed is hemp.
It may be fairly new trend-wise, but hemp seeds actually have been around for millennia. Though it’s currently illegal to grow it in the U.S., that wasn’t always the case: George Washington and Thomas Jefferson both grew it.

First Cannabis-Built and Fueled Plane Coming Next Year

We recently learned that the world’s most complete fruit, the coconut, can also aid us with hydrogen storage. But let’s not forget about the other little gift nature gave us – cannabis.
You can do a lot more with it than stare and laugh at a door knob for one hour while devouring a mix of chocolate, chips and pickles. For example, you can build and fuel a plane using a variation of the plant as this man plans to do next year.
