RIP Joe Cocker: A Legend Once Thrown Out of Australia for Smoking Weed

BY

Joe Cocker has passed away at the age of 70 after succumbing to a long battle with lung cancer. Known for his rendition of The Beatles’ “With a Little Help From My Friends” and one of the best recording artists of our time, Cocker’s legend will live on through his music.
From “Feeling Alright” to “Cry Me a River”, no voice oozed with utter emotion like Cocker’s has for the past 50 years. Cocker’s bout with lung cancer is well-documented, as the artist used to smoke “40 a day at one time.”
While Cocker quit that habit about two decades ago, the damage done by that major nicotine use was too much to overcome. Sadly, Cocker’s death can be a nostalgic reminder that smoking cannabis is a far healthier inhalation alternative to tobacco.
As we remember one of the more beautiful, heartfelt voices ever recorded, it’s worth nothing that Cocker was blazing a trail of cannabis across the world before it was fashionable to do so.

Arizona Farm Bureau supports hemp as new crop

By Howard Fischer, Capitol Media Services

Arizonans may get to decide if they want to let farmers here grow an industrial — and not psychoactive — version of marijuana.

In essence, the measure would empower the state Department of Agriculture to license people to grow hemp. It’s a cousin of marijuana but hemp’s concentration of THC, the psychoactive element of marijuana, is no greater than three-tenths of 1 percent.

Marijuana Games Company Releases 2 New Weed Video Games

Defend marijuana crops in Crop Defender

Defend marijuana crops in Crop Defender
MarijuanaGames.org announced the release of 2 new cannabis-themed video games this week, adding the titles Crop Defender and Too Stoned Russ to its stable of marijuana games.  Previous games produced by the US-based company were mostly parodies such as Stoned Mario and Stoned Pacman.  However, the 2 new games released by the company stray from this concept with more original storylines and game play.
Crop Defender is an 8 level full feature video game where players must defend their marijuana crops from a variety of threats including drought, fungus, insects, deer, thieves and police.
Too Stoned Russ is just 3 levels and pokes fun at the company’s founder, Russ Hudson.  In this game players are tasked with keeping “Russ” upright as he travels through a stoner’s world.  Hudson says this game was meant to let people know that although he takes his work in the cannabis industry serious,
“There is also a fun side to this industry that we must keep in perspective.  Yes, marijuana has significant medical applications, but it’s also a great way to have fun, socialize, relax and unwind.”  Hudson explained during a recent interview.

The Grateful Dead themed Bud + Breakfast Silverthorne has officially opened its doors to mountain tourists. The Mary Jane Group property represents the companies’ second foray into Bud + Breakfasts, as the company also owns The Adagio in Denver, Colorado’s first ever Bud + Breakfast.
While the theme may be hippie, the guests won’t be a bunch of stoners looking for a crash pad. Prices on rooms range from $149-199, but the Kush Garcia Suite is the coup de grace.

Even though the growing and selling of medical marijuana was approved by the 2013 Legislature, the cannabis plant will remain a point of contention and debate at the 2015 Nevada Legislature, lawmakers said.
“I personally think it will (be a big issue),” said state Sen Richard “Tick” Segerblom, D-Las Vegas. “The press will cover it because it is a sexy issue. But the fact is, there are a lot of things we need to do about it.”
Lawmakers are expected to debate legalizing recreational use of marijuana and propose a study on the issues surrounding DUIs, employment drug testing and how it relates to Nevada’s medical marijuana law.

NSW cannabis trial for sick kids, adults

AAP

Preparations for a multi-million dollar trial for medicinal cannabis is set to begin in NSW this week.
Children with severe epilepsy, terminally ill adults and those undergoing chemotherapy could be part of the $9 million trial to help alleviate their symptoms.
Before the trials can get underway the NSW government has to overcome logistical hurdles in importing medical cannabis products from Europe or the US.
Approval for the importation of the products may take several weeks, but if permission is denied the NSW government has indicated it could grow its own cannabis crop.

The marijuana industry’s accidental entrepreneurs

CHARLESPASSY

With more states legalizing the use of marijuana for medical and even recreational purposes, more entrepreneurs are going into the pot business. Some are opening dispensaries, some are starting growhouses and some are baking up a mass-market version of “hash brownies” or other edible products.
And then there’s Mike LeBlanc and Rick Simler. They’re just looking to sell plastic containers.

The Internet’s First Sale Ever Was a Bag of Marijuana

BY

In honor of #TBT, Marijuana.com features a slice of hemp history on every Thursday.
Before the Silk Road and BitCoin were around to help facilitate online drug deals, finding drugs on the world-wide web wasn’t so easy. However, online drug transactions date much further back than you’d expect.
A recent article on The Guardian points out that some smart college kids in the early 70s (over 40 years ago) at Stanford and MIT enacted what was likely the first online transaction. Oddly and hilariously enough, the exchange between the brainiacs was for a big old sack of bud.
