Kosher Pot May Be Coming Soon

Clover Hope

Useful news: The Orthodox Union is working on putting a kosher stamp on medicinal pot.

Time reports via The Jewish Daily Forward that the organization is currently in talks with “parties interested in offering kosher medical marijuana products”:

In the past, the Orthodox Union has refused to certify cigarettes and e-cigarettes due to their clear health risks, but Rabbi Moshe Elefant, who leads kosher certification at the Orthodox Union, said it “would not have a problem” certifying medical marijuana since it has health benefits.

Flying high in the world’s first hemp aircraft

Can you imagine gaining altitude in a plane made of Mary Jane?
One day, Canadian cannabis fanatic Derek Kesek let his mind wander, contemplating the infinite possibilities of hemp-based innovation. That’s when it occurred to him: while people have come up with some 25,000 uses for the herb, no one has yet built an airplane out of it and operate it on hemp fuel. So, what the heck, he resolved build the plane rather than let it become a pipe dream.

Pot group calls for Holiday Inn boycott after one hotel files anti-cannabis suit

By , The Cannabist Staff

One of the largest cannabis policy groups in the U.S. is calling for a boycott on all Holiday Inns after one Colorado hotel filed a lawsuit on Feb. 19 meant to “end the sale of recreational marijuana in this state.”
As we reported yesterday, the Holiday Inn in ski-town Frisco, Colo., claims its business is already suffering because of a recreational marijuana shop it says is planning to open 75 yards from the hotel’s front door.
“Many of its guests are youth ski teams and families with children,” the lawsuit says. “Many parents and coaches will avoid booking with a hotel that is within a short walking distance and direct sight of a recreational marijuana store and grow facility.”
Now the D.C.-based Marijuana Policy Project is fighting back with a call to boycott all Holiday Inns and a petition encouraging the local hotel operator to withdraw the suit.

‘Parks & Rec’ star Adam Scott to make Denver-set pot sitcom ‘Buds’ for NBC

It’s official: Marijuana is going media mainstream, ie network television.
NBC might soon have a sitcom on its schedule set inside a Denver pot shop, according tomultiple reports. And with the announcement of “Buds” — from creative team Adam Scott (from the network’s near-death “Parks & Recreation”) and Joe Mande (a comic, writer andTwitter phenom) — cannabis has broached a different aspect of mainstream media.
Yes, there are the docu-series and reality showsand documentaries that have tracked Colorado’s historic implementation of legal pot. But “Buds” sounds like a traditional network TV sitcom, and its premise — the day-to-day happenings inside a legal marijuana shop in Denver — certainly has potential.

85-year-old Houston woman fighting to legalize marijuana

HOUSTON – “I’ve always been pretty outspoken,” said Ann Lee.
At 85 years old, Ann Lee looks like anyone’s grandmother.
“I don’t know whether it’s my age, the white hair, what is it, but it does seem to strike a chord,” said Lee.
But don’t let the white hair fool you. She’s a fiery Republican who believes you have the right to use marijuana.
“It’s just me, I believe in this,” said Lee.
For Lee, it’s personal. She wasn’t always a supporter of weed. That changed when her son was bound to a wheelchair, and needed it to treat his condition.
“We realized marijuana wasn’t the weed of the devil which I had been known to say,” said Lee.

Judge feels remorse for doling out 55-year marijuana sentence

by Ted Hesson

Weldon Angelos went to prison at age 24 and may not see freedom until he’s a senior citizen — all for three marijuana charges.
The retired federal judge who sentenced Angelos in 2002 now says justice wasn’t served.
Paul Cassell, a former federal judge in the Utah circuit, spoke to ABC News:

“If he had been an aircraft hijacker, he would have gotten 24 years in prison. If he’s been a terrorist, he would have gotten 20 years in prison. If he was a child rapist, he would have gotten 11 years in prison. And now I’m supposed to give him a 55-year sentence? I mean, that’s just not right,” Cassell said.

Ben & Jerry’s – Weed Ice Cream?

 |  By

Ben & Jerry’s reputation as a quirky ice cream company is no secret, and every one of their flavors is far from normal. In a HuffPost Live interview Wednesday, founders Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield hinted that they’d be open to a higher level of experimentation in the future — specifically, they would consider making a cannabis-infused ice cream should legal hurdles be removed.
“Makes sense to me,” Cohen told host Alyona Minkovski matter-of-factly. “Combine your pleasures.”
