Cannabis Is Great, But The Hemp Market Is Worth Billions

Reginald Reefer
worldwide hemp market

In 1938, Popular Mechanics published an article entitled, “Billion Dollar Crop” in reference to Hemp.At the time, a billion dollars would hold the modern day equivalent of $16,766,111,111.11 based on inflation and all that economic jazz. As of last year, Colorado grossed more than 1 billion dollars in Cannabis sales and the kicker here is, we’re only talking about cannabis – Not Hemp!
As the world sheds their old government induced beliefs and open up to a new era of cannabis, we are seeing society respond the industry quite favorably. In fact, in every state that has legalized cannabis either for medical or recreational use, have seen a growth within the industry. While the government is taking their sweet ass time to legitimize the cannabis industry, people are plunging forward and making it legit by themselves.

Mum of Billy Caldwell (11) secures legal cannabis-based medicine on Irish soil
Billy Caldwell and mum Charlotte were previously forced to travel to the US to receive cannabis oil treatment for his debilitating epilepsy

A Co Tyrone mother is receiving a cannabis-based medicine for her young son for the first time on Irish soil after previously bringing a supply of the vital drug from the USA.
Billy Caldwell (11) suffers a severe form of epilepsy that induces seizures which could kill and was initially not expected to survive before receiving life-saving treatment in Chicago.
When his condition worsened again last summer, his mum Charlotte was forced to take Billy to California, where medical and recreational cannabis is legal, to receive doses of oil made from the plant that can prevent seizures.
After a costly spell in Los Angeles that left the pair homeless while they paid for treatment, they were able to return to their Castlederg home after flying to Dublin, where they passed through customs with a supply of cannabis oil.
Now the relieved family can get the medicine they need without leaving Ireland.

Gun rights and marijuana laws

As more states expand their marijuana use laws, a new issue is beginning to pop up that impacts gun owners.
On a federal firearms background check form, Section 11 E, which was revised on January 16, asks if a person is an unlawful user of marijuana, or any other depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or other controlled substance.
Underneath that, in bold letters, it clarifies that the use of marijuana remains unlawful under federal law, regardless if the state you live in allows it.
Heather Fazio with the Marijuana Policy Project says that provision is a problem.
“It’s unreasonable to deprive legal marijuana users in states that have allowed access for medicinal purposes,” Fazio explained. “It’s unreasonable to restrict them to access to their second amendment right.”
